Waste Removal
Waste removal is included as part of the homeowner dues for Windjammer residents. The current contract for trash and recycling pickup is through Waste Connections. Trash and recycling pickup is every Friday starting at 7am. The contract covers one toter and up to 3 additional bags. Pickup of larger items (furniture, appliances, etc.) has to be arranged with Waste Connections for an additional charge that is paid by the homeowner. Please make sure to place your cans with the lid opening facing the street and leave 2 feet of clearance around each can. This will help at pickup time.
Items accepted for recycling are:
- Plastic bottles & tubs #1 through #7
- Aluminum, glass and tin food or beverage containers
- Newspaper, office paper, junk mail and magazines
- Cardboard, cereal boxes, rice boxes, pizza boxes (clean), etc.
No shredded paper or plastic bags!
A more detailed list of items accepted for recycling can be found in the recycling guide. Recyclables have to be placed in the recycling cart (blue) without plastic bags. Cardboard should be broken down into 2 ft pieces. Please, no shredded paper or plastic bags! Those items cause havoc in the automated sorting system at the Materials Recovery Facility.
Spring and Fall Cleaning
The current waste removal contract also includes 2 roll off containers. These containers will be used for spring and fall cleaning. Date and location is communicated in emails. Remember this is only for Windjammer households.
If you plan to drop off household hazardous waste for collection, you have to bring a filled out and signed copy of the Household Hazardous Liability Waiver. No hazardous waste items can be accepted without a waiver.
Information on how to recycle items not mentioned above can be found in the Recycling Directory available from the El Paso County Solid Waste Management Division. There you can also find information on how to recycle yard waste. Below are a few locations and what they accept.
